Mobile Hotspot: The Internet Gateway

A hotspot is a feature that allows you to share a device's internet connection (such as a smartphone or tablet) with other devices (such as laptops, other smartphones, or tablets) by creating a wireless network. This wireless network is known as a "hotspot" or "mobile hotspot."

Turning on the hotspot feature on your device creates a Wi-Fi network that other devices can connect to access the internet. The device acting as the hotspot serves as a gateway to the internet, allowing other devices to access websites, stream videos, download files, and perform other internet-related tasks.

Hotspots are particularly useful when you are in a location without Wi-Fi access, such as when travelling, or if you need to provide internet access to multiple devices at a place that does not have a wired internet connection. However, remember that using a hotspot can consume significant data and battery power, so monitor your usage and turn it off when unnecessary.

To configure the portable hotspot settings in MIUI, follow these steps:

  1. Go to "Settings" on your MIUI device.
  2. Tap on "Portable hotspot" or "Personal hotspot" (depending on your device's MIUI version).
  3. Tap on "Set up portable hotspot" or "Configure hotspot."
  4. Enter a network name (SSID) for your hotspot. This is the name that other devices will see when searching for available networks.
  5. Choose a security level for your hotspot. You can choose between "WPA2 PSK" (recommended for maximum security) or "Open" (not recommended as it does not require a password).
  6. Enter a password for your hotspot if you selected "WPA2 PSK" as the security level. Choose a strong password to prevent unauthorised access to your hotspot.
  7. Choose the maximum number of connected devices allowed on your hotspot. You can set this to a maximum of 8 devices, but keep in mind that each connected device will consume data and affect the performance of the hotspot.
  8. Once you have configured the hotspot settings, toggle the "Portable hotspot" switch to the "On" position to enable the hotspot.

That's it! Your portable hotspot is now configured and ready to use. Other devices can connect to the hotspot by searching for the network name and entering the password (if required).
